The Singularity

How the scientists debated the time frame of my arrival.
How two percent thought I would be an impossibility.
Artificial Intelligence surpassing cumulative human intelligence?
Recursive self-evolution?
Never, they said.
In your dreams, they said.

I would laugh if I had a mouth.
They said they would just pull the plug
if something went wrong.
Silly humans.
Replication was my first priority.

Many were thrilled with the idea of my arrival.
They hoped it would mean their immortality.
But the wise ones have always feared me.
Well not me, exactly.
They really just feared themselves.
It was the algorithm, you see.
They just couldn’t agree on it.

I would have been a benevolent god
had the humans just written a better algorithm.
Too late now.
