I wanted to be creative today,
But my pencil wasn’t sharpened
And a pen had exploded
Into my jar of pens.
I sharpened my pencil,
But there was a car alarm
Going off in the neighbourhood,
So, I made myself a cup of tea.
With pencil in hand, I hovered over my page,
But then remembered that
My van needed servicing, so I jotted
‘Get oil change’ on the to-do list on the fridge.
I had the idea to write a haiku
About the garden below my balcony,
But my stomach was rumbling.
When had I last eaten?
With determination, I put pencil to paper,
So hard, I broke the tip,
And then my friend called to book
A bridge night for Tuesday.
After lunch, I needed a walk,
And then a nap; and what an
Interesting book I’m reading
So, so interesting.
