Haiku 1

Western Rattlesnake

Why don’t you rattle?
Where are you? Ah, there you are.
Coiled up near my foot.

Loss

Christmas lights flicker,
But many bulbs have burned out,
Like my lost loved ones.

x—x

Hermit Trail

Along the footpath,
Stones placed by a loner’s hand.
Guidepost to freedom.

x—x

Nile Creek

Footpath oozes mud
Through trees, ferns, and foliage,
And the river sings.

x—x

Peak

Sound of just my breath.
Summits are sacred places
When earned by climbing.
