I said something else.
Perhaps you didn’t hear it when
The ambulance drove by,
When its sirens were screaming.
I certainly didn’t mean it that way, even if I said it,
Although I don’t remember saying it.
Not that way, anyway. If I did say it,
Which I don’t think I did,
I really didn’t mean it that way.
I meant it in a different way,
But it’s hard to articulate.
I don’t have the words.
I meant it respectfully and
I didn’t mean to make you cry.
Perhaps it wasn’t as respectfully stated
As I had hoped, although I was feeling respectful.
I certainly didn’t want to hurt you.
I guess I just didn’t use appropriate words
Or an appropriate tone.
I know, I’m dancing around this apology.
So let me just say that I did, indeed, mean to be disrespectful,
And to hurt you, though I don’t know why,
And I’m very sorry I said what I said.
